What I always find when others ask me to check their site. 1. Google likes pages that are valid HTML. Have your site validated- http://validator.w3.org/ 2. Check if your site has spelling errors. There is just no excuse for such mistakes. Some Common typing errors are a known trick to get some users to come to that site. 3. If you have a message board, with only 3 members, you, your mom and your girlfriend, stop. Until you have a solid user base, drop the message board; it doesn't give the right image. Concentrate instead on a blog which gives out technical information; that will, eventually, provide backlinks, and increase your page rank . 4. Copywriting is very important. If you do not have good copy, and most of us aren't professionals, then find someone to check it over for you. Think about your key messages to the clients, and keep repeating them over and over. 5. SEO it. This is the most underutilized tool of most small website owners.I guess because they scrimped on the service now they are wondering why they do not have much traffic. |
